UN to Pay Tribute to Recently Deceased Russian Ambassador
United Nations, Mar 21 (Prensa Latina) The General Assembly of the United Nations will hold a session of tribute today, dedicated to the recently deceased Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, announced today its oresident, Peter Thomson.
'We will pay tribute to the recently Permanent Representative of Russia, in a forum that will include interventions by the president of the Assembly, Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the president of the Security Council this month, British Matthew Rycroft, and heads of the regional groups,' he said.
In a press release, Thomson noted that representatives from Russia and the United States -in their condition as host- will also give brief speeches.
Churkin died suddenly on February 20, apparently of a heart attack, a day before reaching the age of 65. The diplomat won the respect and the recognition of the United Nations family for their talent, powerful oratory and sense of humor during his meetings with the press.
