Argentina Declares 2017 Renewable Energy Year
Buenos Aires, Jan 4 (Prensa Latina) Argentina declared 2017 the year of renewable energies in order to promote its use and to raise awareness on their importance for the country''s development in a sustainable environment.
The measure was written in the decree 9/2017 published today in the Official Gazette and aims to achieve a contribution of these energy sources to reach 20 percent of electricity consumption up to December 31st, 2025.
The decree states that the search for energy diversification through clean sources has become a State policy, in line with the commitments assumed by Argentina with the adoption of the 'Paris Agreement', held in the framework of COP21, and approved by the Law number 27.270.
In this sense, he adds, it is stressed that the use of renewable energy resources for both electricity generation and thermal uses has several benefits including, first, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, among others.
The standard indicates that in 2017 progress is expected in the works necessary to start to enjoy new sources of clean and environmentally friendly energy, which are crucial for the development of the country.
The Executive will sponsor activities, seminars, conferences and educational programs that contribute to the diffusion in the country of the different aspects related to the development and use of renewable energies.
