Colombian Electoral Council Recognizes Voces de Paz as a Movement
11 de enero de 2017, 16:39Bogota, Jan 11 (Prensa Latina) The National Electoral Council of Colombia (CNE) recognized today Voces de Paz (VP) as a political movement that seeks to pave the way for the change of FARC-EP insurgents into a party, once the disarmament is done.
CNE passed the request made by VP at the end of last year, a decision considered by experts as a core to the democratic openness and reconciliation.
This is an essential step for the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP) to be further considered as an organization with legal status.
Active members of FARC-EP, the largest guerrilla in the country, are not currently members of VP, they are now on the way to the transition areas in which they will lay down their weapons and begin their preparation to join society.
Imelda Daza, one of the VP members and leader of Union Patriotica, told the Prensa Latina news agency that this group, recognized today by CNE, is in charge of monitoring the implementation of the recent agreement between the Government and FARC-EP, currently in the demobilization stage.
According to Daza, during the debate on the amnesty bill, VP was well received by many of the parliamentarians although she deplored stigmatizations and questionings made by parliamentarians from the Centro Democratico, led by former-President Alvaro Uribe.
