Republic of Congo Plans Special Economic Zone with Chinese Aid
Beijing, Jan 12 (Prensa Latina) Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi assured his country will aid the Republic of Congo build a Special Economic Zone in the port city of Pointe Noire, announced the government.
The Foreign Minister of the Asian nation, visiting Brazzaville, announced the commitment during a meeting with his Congolese homologue, Jean-Claude Gakosso.
Wang highlighted that China has become the most important contributor of industrialization and economic diversification of Congo and detailed the Zone of Pointe Noire is fruit of an important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries.
According with the Chinese diplomat, the Pointe Noire Zone will use the experience of this nation and strengthen China-Africa collaboration.
He also considered that the relation between Beijing and Brazzaville serves as an example for China-Africa cooperation and South-South collaboration.
For his part, Gakosso said China is the most sincere friend and more reliable partner of Congo, and added that the Economic Special Zone of Pointe Noire is the most transcendent and symbolic cooperation project between both parts.
In 2016, Chinese president Xi Jinping and his peer of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, raised bilateral links to an integral strategic association.
The second world economy considers Congo a priority country for cooperation as for industrial production capacity between China and the African horn.
In 2013, the Congolese government started to plan four special economic zones in Brazzaville, Pointe Noire, Ouesso and Oyo-Ollombo to put an end to the oild dependence of the country, create jobs and reduce poverty.
Wang compliments his first trip of the year starting by five African countries with which he will review and boost cooperation projects.
Since last January 8, the Chinese FM started his tour through Madagascar, Zambia, Tanzania, the Republic of Congo and Nigeria, where it will conclude today.
