In a short morning press conference, the president briefly reported on the meeting that began at the National Palace.

He reiterated that in any agreement with any government, the first thing is respect for our sovereignty and, in this case, for our Constitution and independence, and the same is valid for them, he said.

Mexico has a long tradition of respect since the time of Benito Juárez, who said that both among individuals and in nations, respect for the rights of others means peace and this is also the way it is at this meeting, the president said.

It is, he added, a respectful dialogue as it has always been in this Government, there are no problems and we, being free and sovereign, respect those who visit us.

He recalled that when they made the decision to protect former Bolivian president Evo Morales when his life was in danger due to the 2019 coup, Mexico did not ask the United States for authorization to a sovereign decision.

Regarding the militarized Merida Plan, which the United States government wants to revitalize, López Obrador said that at the end of the meeting there will be a statement in that regard.

He added that, indeed, the migration issue will be discussed, for which the heads of those institutions in each country will meet. At the end of the meeting there will be a joint statement or each delegation will report.

Everything will be discussed and it should be taken into account that this is a continuity because when there is a meeting of this type at this level, others have already been held, he explained.
