Cuba improves the use of X-rays against Covid-19

Maquina de rayos x-medico
Havana, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) Scientists in Cuba today are developing a project aimed at improving the use of X-rays in the diagnosis, prognosis and follow-up of patients with Covid-19.

Specialists from the Cuban Neuroscience Center (Cneuro) and the Cuban Society of Imaging are working on this endeavor.

Both institutions are seeking to improve the use of Chest X-rays and Computerized Axial Tomography (CAT) by applying artificial intelligence tools.

Evelio Gonzalez, head of the project and of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Optogenetics department of the Cneuro, explained that the idea introduces the use of artificial intelligence techniques that improve the quality of the images.

Likewise, added Gonzalez, quoted by Granma newspaper, that will provide more information contributing to quantify and classify with greater certainty the lesions detected.

The Chest X-Ray used against Covid-19 is an inexpensive, fast and widely available procedure, the specialist pointed out.

We are also seeking to develop an standardized radiological report, which will allow the creation of an extensive database in which the clinical histories of these people will be recorded, said Gonzalez.

The project will be used in other pulmonary studies related, for example, to cancer, quantitative monitoring of the effect of drugs and post-Covid-19 research.
