In the text on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, designated by the United Nations in 1977, the Russian president noted Moscow’s commitment to look for a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian problem. The president’s statement was read on Monday by the deputy director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexei Skosyrev, during a video conference with Palestinian counterparts.

Putin pointed out that the response to the conflict must be based on the principles of international law and the resolutions passed by the UN, and should only conclude with the creation of a viable Palestinian State within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital.

He stressed that Moscow will work closely with the Palestinian leadership to resume direct dialogue with the Israeli side.

“We understand our task to promote the progressive development of bilateral cooperation, help the formation of the Palestinian State and strengthen its economy,” Putin said.
