The installation would seek to guarantee the country’s connectivity with the global telecommunications network, reported El Mundo newspaper.
This Monday, the Assembly’s Finance and Special Budget Committee issued a favorable opinion to incorporate resources to the general State budget 2025, in the Economy branch, to start the project that will improve the country’s digital connection.
The committee considered it pertinent to incorporate US$84.6 million in the special line of the General Superintendence of Electricity and Telecommunications (Siget), to finance the first phase of the “Program to strengthen sovereignty connection: submarine cable”.
The funds allocated to the project include the design, construction, laying, installation and commissioning of a submarine cable that will connect the country to the global telecommunications network.
The resources, if approved by the plenary this Wednesday, are expected to be transferred to the budget of the Ministry of Economy, in the budget unit of the General Superintendence of Electricity and Telecommunications (Siget).
