Bogotá, May 4 (Prensa Latina) Colombian President Gustavo Petro today condemned the death of the activist of the political movement Colombia Humana Alberto Peña, assassinated while he was calling for a march on May 1 in support of the government's popular consultation.

In a message published in his social network account X, the president commented that the Police has the order to locate the criminals who killed the activist in Miranda, in the Cauca department (southwest) and that the political homicide must end.

“We know that they assassinate our people so that the president retreats, I will not retreat a meter, we will move forward even more,” he wrote. He added that those who advocate peace will receive it and will be talked to as human beings, while those who choose crime will be firmly confronted.

The armed gangs of foreign drug traffickers should have no place in the national territory.

Those who help them in their efforts to control the homeland must immediately abandon this activity.

No Colombian should violate national sovereignty’, he remarked.

Petro also expressed that the assassinations systematically committed against a population group is a crime against humanity, and that the State Legal Agency must proceed to gather information on the aggressions against the citizens in order to present the cases before international justice.
