Russian Communists award Cuba’s president 80th anniversary medal (+Photos)

Moscow, May 7 (Prensa Latina) Gennady Zyuganov, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Russia, awarded on Wednesday, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President, Miguel Diaz-Canel, the medal commemorating the 80th anniversary of the great victory.

At the meeting, the two communist leaders praised the historical ties between their nations and political organizations.

The Cuban head of State highlighted the international support for the celebration of the eight decades of the Soviet triumph over Nazi Germany, “in times when it is intended to overshadow the Red Army’s achievements, it is time to work to preserve the historical memory.”

Diaz-Canel commented that the Cuban people acknowledge this date’s legacy. This war was of great importance for national liberation, as a sign of the heroism of the Soviet and Russian people.

The Cuban president recalled the words of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who said that while the Soviets fought in Leningrad, they did it for humanity and Cuba.

Once again, we want to highlight the support of the authorities of the Russian Communist Party and President Vladimir Putin for advancing cooperation between our countries, Diaz-Canel said.

He also acknowledged the Russian communists’ support in fighting the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than six decades.

After the exchange, Diaz-Canel and the delegation accompanying him will preside over the ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of restoring diplomatic relations between Cuba and Russia.
