Investigation underway into possible organ trafficking in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, May 29 (Prensa Latina) The Haitian National Police (PNH) is investigating a possible case of organ trafficking, after the discovery in the town of Torcel of two bodies stripped of their vital organs and intestines.

The experts determined that it was a methodical extraction, since two lungs, two kidneys, two livers and a heart were removed.

The HNP team now suspects the use of specific post-mortem treatment techniques, suggesting an operation carried out by individuals with some medical or paramedical expertise.

The issue of organ trafficking in Haiti was on everyone’s lips before this discovery by the HNP, which has just confirmed the rumors.

With the increase in crime and the expansion of its territory, it is becoming a lucrative business for gangs.

Previously, parlamentrian Leslie Voltaire, during his tenure on the Presidential Transition Council, confirmed that human organ trafficking is now another scourge plaguing the lives of the inhabitants of the Caribbean nation, and discribed the disappearances of citizens as worrying, as well as the progression of this crime linked to illegal trade. Vital body parts such as kidneys, livers, and hearts are extracted and sold abroad for astronomical sums, he pointed out.

His statements underscore the seriousness of the situation, hence his assertion that sometimes, when people disappear, their bodies are never found.
