The president of the Cuban Friendship Institute, Fernando Gonzalez, recalled the numerous cooperation projects between the two countries and emphasized that “they have become a firm voice against the blockade, proving that our alliance is not rhetoric, but action.”

In the presence of members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Havana, he paid tribute to the greatness and sovereignty of the Russian people, adding that “this event is a recognition of the values that unite us and the defense of self-determination.”

For his part, the Russian ambassador to Havana, Viktor Koronelli, referred to the current geopolitical context and emphasized that “in these hard times, we appreciate the support of our fellow thinkers from the so-called World Majority, our friends from the Global South and East.”

The commemoration of the Russian National Day showed the close relations between the two peoples, as part of the celebration for the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and the reestablishment of bilateral diplomatic relations, strengthened by the recent visit of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel to Russia.
