In statements to reporters, published on the Presidency of the Council of Ministers’ website, Meloni highlighted the positive results of Friday´s meeting in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, during a visit to that nation on May 29 after arriving from Uzbekistan.
Organized by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the meeting with the Italian prime minister was attended by the presidents of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev; Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Zhaparov; Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon; and Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedow.
The Italian head of Government recalled that her country was the first in the European Union (EU) to prioritize relations with those nations, and created “a stable format for exchanging ideas” based on “cooperation, vision, and responsibility.” She said Central Asia is a crossroads between West and East, occupying a strategic role on the global stage, to build opportunities for cooperation “between seemingly distant partners with profoundly different histories,” especially “in difficult times like the ones we are living through.”
At the end of the event, Meloni called to “defend our security together” and “join forces also to fight terrorism and dismantle transnational criminal organizations that profit from trafficking in drugs, arms, and people,” the source adds.

Roma, 31 may (Prensa Latina) La primera ministra de Italia, Giorgia Meloni, consideró que su reunión cumbre con los presidentes de cinco países de Asia Central contribuyó a lograr relaciones con esa región más sólidas, duraderas y estratégicas, señala hoy un comunicado.
En declaraciones a la prensa, divulgadas en el sitio oficial de la Presidencia del Consejo de ministros, Meloni destacó los positivos resultados de ese encuentro efectuado la víspera en Astaná, capital de Kazajstán, en el marco de una visita iniciada el 29 de mayo a esa nación, a la que arribó procedente de Uzbekistán.
En la cita con la mandataria italiana, organizada por el presidente kasajo, Kasim-Yomart Tokáev, participó su homólogo uzbeko, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, así como los líderes de Kirguistán, Tayikistán y Turkmenistán, Sadyr Zhaparov, Emomali Rahmon y Serdar Berdimuhamedow, respectivamente.
La jefa de Gobierno italiana recordó que su país fue el primero de la Unión Europea (UE) que priorizó las relaciones con esas naciones, y creó “un formato estable para el intercambio de ideas” sobre la base de la “cooperación, visión y responsabilidad”.
Asia Central, según dijo, es una encrucijada entre Occidente y Oriente, que ocupa un papel estratégico en el escenario global, para crear oportunidades de cooperación “entre socios aparentemente distantes y con historias profundamente diferentes”, especialmente “en tiempos difíciles como los que estamos viviendo”.
Finalmente, en el evento Meloni llamó a “defender juntos nuestra seguridad” y a “unir fuerzas también para combatir el terrorismo y desmantelar las organizaciones criminales transnacionales que se benefician del tráfico de drogas, armas y personas”, agrega la fuente.
