San Juan, May 31 (Prensa Latina) Puerto Rico's Criminal Justice Information System was disabled today by a cyber attack, the Department of Justice confirmed, stating that the Innovation and Technology Service (PRITS) has launched an investigation.

“From the moment of detection, protocols were immediately activated and coordinated efforts are underway in the containment and investigation phase; the technical assessment of the scope of the incident continues to be developed with the support of the relevant authorities,” according to the Justice Department statement.

The agency did not indicate the nature of the attack, when it was detected, how long it lasted, whether the situation persists, or which systems the attackers accessed.

“As part of preventive measures, and with the aim of safeguarding the integrity of the information, it has been decided to temporarily suspend some services, including the issuance of criminal records certificates,” the Justice Department said.
