Voters will be able to determine 881 positions at the federal level (the other part will be defined in 2027), and some 1,800 local positions in 19 states of the country, following the change from a system of appointment, as previously established, to one of popular vote.

The unprecedented elections derive from the judicial reform approved last year, which aims to put an end to corruption and influence peddling which, in the opinion of authorities and dissimilar voices of the civil society, permeates this autonomous power.

Data from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection reveal that only between last year and this year, there are almost 200 decisions of jurisdictional bodies that favored or tried to benefit criminals with transfers, releases and definitive discharges.

“Those who want the regime of corruption and privileges in the judiciary to be maintained say that this election is rigged, or they also say that it is for a political party to take over the Supreme Court,” said yesterday President Claudia Sheinbaum in a video published on X.

“They also say that it is for the President to put the ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation in her own way. Nothing more false, she added.
