According to the roadmap’s statement, this program has been built since October 2023 with the participation of representatives of the public and private sectors, civil society, academia and international cooperation.
The initiative will be executed by the National Association for the Conservation of Nature, with the support of the Global Plastic Action Partnership of the World Economic Forum and the United Kingdom Embassy in Panama, according as quoted by the newspaper Panamá América.
Promotores of the initiative explained tha the Roadmap is a strategic tool to establish concrete measures for each stage of the plastic life cycle, including the elimination of unnecessary products, the adoption of reuse systems, the promotion of recycling and more efficient waste management.
Regarding the issue, Oscar Vallarino, Vice Minister of the Environment, noted that every year, tons of plastic waste endanger people’s health and deteriorate the biodiversity of the country, which is why the current program allows the advancement towards the declaration of a Sustainable Panama.
