Sheinbaum Celebrates Aguilar´s appointment to lead the Supreme Court

Mexico City, June 4 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum celebrated the imminent appointment of Hugo Aguilar to preside over the Supreme Court, after receiving the highest number of votes in last Sunday's judicial elections.

“I am very pleased that the next president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation is an Indigenous Mixtec from Oaxaca, a very good lawyer,” the Chief Executive stated when addressing the issue during her regular meeting with the media.

She said she has the privilege of knowing him and explained that his knowledge not only covers issues related to indigenous peoples, but in general, while describing him as a modest, modest man with enormous intelligence and social sensitivity.

With 99.8 percent of the votes counted, Aguilar leads the candidacies for that position, obtaining 6,078,082 votes, following the unprecedented election to renew 881 federal positions (the other part will be decided in 2027), in addition to approximately 1,800 local ones.

The unprecedented elections arose from the judicial reform approved last year, which aims to put an end to the corruption and influence peddling that, in the opinion of Authorities and diverse voices from civil society permeate this autonomous power.

According to data from the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, between last year and the current year alone, nearly 200 decisions by judicial bodies favored or attempted to favor criminals with transfers, releases, and permanent discharges.

Sheinbaum affirmed that the people of Mexico expect that with the new composition of the judiciary, access to justice will be completely different, with the mandate to “resolve and generate an environment of honesty, integrity, so that change in the judiciary will be seen starting in September.”
