Thailand promotes new method for detecting kidney disease

Bangkok, Jun 6 (Prensa Latina) The National Nanotechnology Center of Thailand (Nanotec) launched a kit for the early detection of kidney disease with the aim of improving health care.

The test, designed for home use, is first implemented in public health centers in the northwestern province of Khon Kaen.

Uracha Ruktanonchai, director of Nanotec, said that this initiative is part of the national strategy to promote economic development, reduce inequalities and increase self-sufficiency.

The test technology was transferred to private companies to expand access, and kits are also distributed to strategic partners such as the Chronic Kidney Disease Prevention Network and the National Health Security Bureau.

It is expected that in October the test will be included in the universal health insurance benefits, to allow free access as a preventive measure.

The kit offers results in five minutes with 96,5% accuracy, with the detection of albumin in urine to identify risk of kidney disease and recommend medical consultation.

On the other hand, Mayor Wattana Changlao highlighted the collaboration with communities and hospitals to improve screening and provide timely care, with seven thousand kits already delivered.
