The 15-year-old was arrested last Saturday as he tried to leave the crime scene, but was unable to escape because one of his pursuers shot him in the leg. After being arrested, he was taken to the Colombia University Clinic, where he remains hospitalized following surgery.
The Prosecutor’s Office is expected to charge him with the aforementioned charges and determine whether it will request a restraining order while the criminal proceedings continue. Because the boy is a minor, this could mean a Specialized Care Center.
Attorney General Luz Adriana Camargo stated that the accused would have greater protection if he were held in the Prosecutor’s Office bunker.
The director of the Colombian Family Welfare Institute, Astrid Cáceres, told local media that the teenager involved in the attack showed a willingness to cooperate with authorities to clarify the events. “Special protection is required, not only for the information we provide to the media, but also for his safety. He is fully cooperating and willing to assume responsibility,” she commented, revealing that the accused has received support from the agency she leads, as well as from the Ombudsman’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office.
Cáceres also stated that there are agreements with the Prosecutor’s Office to establish exceptional security measures for the boy, in accordance with the case, within the framework of legal guarantees.
Senator and presidential candidate for the Democratic Center Party, Miguel Uribe, remains in critical condition, according to the Santa Fe Foundation, where the congressman underwent surgery.
