Egypt steps up regional contacts after Israeli attack against Iran

Cairo, Jun 15 (Prensa Latina) After condemning the Israeli aggression against Iran, Egypt today maintains contacts with countries from the Middle East to address the growing tension and resume negotiations. During a telephone conversation, the Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, agreed on the urgent need to stop military actions and resume nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States, reported an official statement.

Both dignitaries affirmed that the Israeli escalation could have catastrophic consequences for regional security and stability.

The Israeli military offensive threatens to plunge the Middle East into chaos, which will have consequences for all countries without exception, they stressed. In allusion to Israel, El-Sisi insisted on declaring the area as a region free of weapons of mass destruction, the text reported.

At the same time, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held separate talks with his counterparts from Oman, Badr Bin Hamad Al Busaidi, and Turkey, Hakan Fidan.

A statement from the Foreign Ministry detailed that in the contacts the officials evaluated the current regional situation.

They exchanged views on the serious implications of the confrontation between Israel and Iran for regional security and stability, the statement noted.
