This commemoration varies according to the country and popular customs. Some countries celebrate it according to religious traditions and others have established a fixed date in the calendar.

Cuba instituted this day more than eight decades ago on the initiative of writer Dulce María Borrero. Currently, the social expression of the event transcends family gatherings or gifts and is dedicated to celebrate, with admiration and gratitude, the lives of men who are fathers.
