Cuba pays tribute to young revolutionaries assassinated 68 years ago

Havana, Jun 30 (Prensa Latina) The president of the National People's Power Assembly (Parliament) of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, paid tribute today to the young revolutionaries Josué País, Salvador Pascual and Floro Vistel, killed by the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista in 1957.

On the social network X, the head of the Legislative stressed that these fighters symbolize “the heroism of the purest of Cuban youth”.

On June 30, 1957, the 26th of July Revolutionary Movement planned to sabotage a rally organized by the Batista hitmen in the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Park in Santiago de Cuba, and to that end organized several actions. One of them was the placement, in the early hours of the morning, of a time bomb in the sewer of the central public space, but before noon the firefighters sprinkled the place and the surrounding areas, damaging the detonation mechanism of the device.

The group led by Josué País, stationed near the park, did not resign themselves to the wait and occupied a car whose owner immediately reported the incident and alerted the police who were protecting the event.

According to historical notes, the place was filled with hired assassins who competed in the strafing of the young men who were shot down without the possibility of defending themselves.
