Fidel Castro Center begins tribute to Leader of the Cuban Revolution

Havana, July 9 (Prensa Latina) Havana's Fidel Castro Ruz Center launched a program of activities to commemorate the 99th anniversary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution; the program includes several activities, especially designed for children and teenagers that will move them into the cultural life of society, explained the center's deputy director, Sissy Abay.

Six free summer workshops will begin on the 15th of this July, specializing in museum studies, chess, crafts, visual arts, photography, and sign language.

There will also be several presentations by children theater groups from across the country and workshops by La Colmenita performing arts company, along with audiovisual screenings and international photography exhibitions.

Abay explained that the commemoration of the historic leader’s 99th birthday is an extraordinary opportunity to generate a movement, especially among the Caribbean country’s youth, to delve deeper into Fidel Castro’s legacy, as well as to address the current situation facing the nation, marked by the imposition of coercive measures by the United States.

Starting August 13th the institution will carry out activities specially conceived for the celebration, continuing until December 2026, “because we will be commemorating Fidel’s centennial, the tenth anniversary of his physical departure, and the fifth anniversary of the center; and all of these are reasons to explore his work,” the center’s deputy director stressed.

The deputy director also announced that, as a new feature for the summer, Fidel Castro Ruz Center will hold virtual presentations in neighborhoods undergoing transformation, hospitals, production centers, and penitentiaries, while also holding commemorative events on the 13th of each month.

On July 5, the 10th Plenary Session of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba presented the program for the centennial of the historic leader, which includes actions in several areas, from August 13 to December 4 of next year.

The deputy head of the political organization’s Ideological Department, Maryde Fernandez, explained at that meeting that the initiative seeks to “reflect the Cuban people’s deep sense of gratitude toward someone who, with his revolutionary thinking and actions, instilled a way of doing things that today constitutes the theoretical and practical essence of the Revolution.”
