South Africa to host G20 environmental technical meeting

Kruger National Park, South Africa, Jul 11 (Prensa Latina) On the 14th, South Africa will receive more than 250 delegates at the second technical meeting of the G20 Working Group on Environment and Climate Sustainability (ECSWG).

The meeting, which will be held until July 18 in the Kruger National Park, is coordinated by South Africa’s Ministry of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment, and is part of the agenda of South Africa’s presidency of the G20, which this year focuses on the principles of solidarity, equity and sustainability.

According to a ministerial statement to that effect, the aim of the meeting is to boost global cooperation in critical issues such as biodiversity, climate change, land degradation, desertification, waste management, air quality and protection of oceans and coasts.

The meeting in Kruger gives continuity to the work initiated in the first virtual meeting of the ECSWG held in March, and seeks to deepen the collaboration among the member countries in the environmental priorities of the G20.

South Africa will also lead three ECSWG meetings during its presidency, promoting the integration of sustainability into other G20 discussion areas and fostering concrete results in climate finance, conservation, pollution control and ocean governance.
