Italy reported 68 cases of dengue fever in the first half of 2025

Rome, July 11 (Prensa Latina) From January 1 to June 30, 2025, 68 cases of dengue fever were detected in Italy, all imported, but a resurgence of this disease is expected, with possible autochthonous cases, during the summer, a report indicates.

A report from the Higher Institute of Health (ISS), published on the website of the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, indicates that those infected with the disease during the first half of this year were people who contracted the disease mainly while traveling to countries in Central and South America, as well as Southeast Asia.

The average age of the patients was 41 years, and men predominated, accounting for 51,0% of the total, the report indicates, specifying that all those infected recovered, with no serious fatal complications.

During that period, 22 cases of human infection with the chikungunya virus were confirmed in this European nation, all related to travel abroad, particularly to Madagascar, Reunion Island, and Sri Lanka.

The average age of those infected was 49 years, with an equal percentage of men and women, with no serious complications or deaths, the analysis indicates.
