Venezuelan political parties launch election campaign

Caracas, Jul 11 (Prensa Latina) The 53 political parties that will participate in the July 27 municipal elections start their campaign on Friday across Venezuela to elect mayors and council members, which will run until July 24.

The VEN25+ Campaign Command, of the forces grouped at the Simon Bolivar Great Patriotic Pole (GPPSB), is expected to hold a press briefing at the Convention Center in La Carlota, Miranda state, to announce details of its strategy.

About 335 mayors, 2,471 council members, and an equal number of substitutes will be elected in this process, the 33rd since the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution.

Of the total of council members, 1,420 candidates will be elected by a list vote, equivalent to 60 percent; 982 by nominal vote, 40 percent; and 69 others will represent indigenous peoples, the National Electoral Council (CNE) informed.

Diosdado Cabello, Secretary General of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), announced on national television on Wednesday that young people will vote that day in a popular consultation for 37,000 projects that were presented, discussed, and assessed by that age group in their community assemblies.

As part of the program, the CNE organized the electoral campaign from July 11 to 24, in which 53 political parties, divided into 36 national political parties, 10 regional parties, three national indigenous organizations, and four regional organizations, will participate.

An estimated 21,524,126 Venezuelans are called to vote in these municipal elections, 227,281 of whom will vote abroad.
