Fernando Ortiz was an anthropologist, jurist, archaeologist, and journalist who studied Afro-Cuban historical and cultural roots, who made notable contributions related to the sources of national culture.
For his research, he is considered the third discoverer of Cuba, after Christopher Columbus and Alexander von Humboldt.
The concept of transculturation given by Fernando Ortiz constituted a milestone for anthropology, besides that his work was declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation.
