“In accordance with Article 37 of the Federal Law “On International Treaties of the Russian Federation,” the agreement between the Russian and German governments on military-technical cooperation, signed in Moscow on June 14, 1996, is hereby terminated,” the decree states. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs must notify Berlin of this decision.
On June 19, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the country’s plans to withdraw from this bilateral pact, considering it invalid in the current context.
According to the diplomatic ministry, the agreement is “absolutely incompatible with the current state of Russian-German interstate relations, due to the openly hostile policy of the German authorities and the increasingly aggressive militaristic aspirations of that country’s cabinet.”
