Held at Lazaro Pena Theater of the Cuban Workers Confederation (CTC) on July 20, 1977, the ceremony featured Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, who emphasized the symbolism of the event in his speech.

Fidel stated, “To understand the stimulating significance of this graduation, we need to remember the huge obstacles that have had to be overcome in recent years to reach the encouraging current state of our education.”

He added, “We believe that no one can discuss that there is no country in Latin America that has achieved such great successes in education as ours, without this leading us to think that everything is going wonderfully. But we could say that the successes achieved so far give a measure of what we will achieve in the future.”

Fidel recalled the critical situation Cuba was facing in this area and commented on the work done to eradicate illiteracy, the struggles to achieve the sixth-grade goal, and the advancement of several sectors of the population.

This detachment was one of the transcendental steps in the history of Cuban teacher training.
