Syria reports more casualties from war remnants

Damascus, Jul 22 (Prensa Latina) Mines and unexploded ordnance left over from years of conflict continue to claim lives in Syria, mainly among women and children, human rights organizations denounced on Tuesday.

Despite the notable reduction in armed clashes in several regions, explosive remnants of the war continue to act as silent weapons, causing casualties daily, local media informed.

The sources noted that at least 32 civilians, including 14 children, have lost their lives in July due to explosions in different areas of Syrian territory.

The organizations underscored that this worrying rise in the death toll once again shows the ineffectiveness of the international community and specialized agencies in decisively addressing the mine crisis in Syria.

They also warned of the limited implementation of awareness-raising and demining campaigns, which leave the civilian population, especially the most vulnerable, exposed.
