Although the main event commemorating the July 26, 1953, heroic attack led by a group of young revolutionaries commanded by Fidel Castro will take place in Ciego de Avila province on Saturday, initiatives are taking place nationwide to commemorate the date and honor their heroes.
The national holiday was celebrated in the Havana municipality of 10 de Octubre on Tuesday, in the presence of Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and other high-ranking officials from the Cuban Communist Party (PCC), the Government, and the people.
PCC First Secretary in Havana, Livan Izquierdo, emphasized at the ceremony that the young men who respectively attacked Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes garrisons are a source of inspiration for the new generations.
Izquierdo affirmed that even amid the economic, financial, and commercial siege imposed by the US government on the island, in Cuba, “we must banish all traces of pessimism, discouragement, or defeatism, always inspired by the legacy of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.”
Sancti Spiritus province also celebrated National Rebelliousness Day on Monday with an event recognizing progress, including the production of 1,700 tons of sugar on the above schedule and an infant mortality rate of 1.85 per 1,000 live births.
Similar activities took place during the day in other provinces, such as Camagüey, in central Cuba, and the westernmost Pinar del Rio.
