Nicaragua mourns death of head of Russian Supreme Court

Managua, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Nicaragua expressed its most sincere and heartfelt condolences for the death of the president of the Supreme Court of Russia, Irina Leonidovna, according to a local media release.

The text, signed by co-presidents Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, said that as head of the Supreme Court of the Eurasian country, which they described as a brother, Leonidovna was an example of honesty, firmness and service to the homeland and the brave Russian people.

The Sandinista Executive conveyed its solidarity to Leonidovna’s relatives and to all the people of the Russian Federation.

“From our Nicaragua, always blessed and always free, receive our fraternal embrace and the affection and respect of the Nicaraguan people,” the statement concluded.

According to press reports, Leonidovna passed away in Moscow at the age of 71. She assumed the presidency of the court in 2024, following the death of her predecessor, Vyacheslav Lebedev.

Previously, she served as deputy chief justice of the Supreme Court for almost four years.
