Syria: Death toll rises from violence in Sweida province

Damascus, July 23 (Prensa Latina) The death toll from armed clashes in the southern Syrian province of Sweida and Israeli bombings has reached 1,311, human rights organizations reported.

According to sources, the figure corresponds to the first seven days of clashes prior to the ceasefire between Druze armed groups and Bedouin and tribal militias.

Among the victims are 637 Sweida residents, including 104 civilians, including six minors and 16 women.

In addition, 456 personnel belonging to the Ministry of Defense and General Security were reported dead, including 32 Bedouin tribal fighters.

During the incidents, Israeli airstrikes killed 15 members of the Ministries of Defense and Interior, the organizations reported.

Since last Monday, several areas of the province have experienced relative calm following the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement, brokered by the United States.

The pact provides for the mutual release of prisoners. As an expression of goodwill, Druze forces began the release of approximately 1,300 tribal detainees.

According to the agreement, the remaining Bedouin prisoners, as well as personnel from the Ministries of Defense and Interior, must be released within 48 hours in exchange for the release of 110 Druze detainees by the tribes.
