Slovakia calls for ceasefire in Gaza alongside EU

Bratislava, July 23 (Prensa Latina) Slovakia joined the international declaration demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza, Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar confirmed in an official statement.

The central European nation joined the initiative, led by the United Kingdom and supported by more than 20 states, along with the European Commission, which condemns violence against civilians and restrictions on humanitarian aid.

This stance is consistent with our consistent position: we support negotiations between Israel and Hamas as a basis for peace, the Slovak minister stated, according to the TASR news agency.

The joint letter specifically criticizes Israeli methods of distributing humanitarian aid, which it considers dangerous and degrading to the Gazan population.

The Israeli military offensive has caused more than 59,000 Palestinian deaths, according to local figures, spreading tensions to Lebanon and Yemen. Analysts point out that Slovakia’s accession reflects Israel’s growing international isolation, despite continued support from the United States and some European allies.
