Brazil: Supreme Court interrogates another group in coup attempts

Brasilia, July 24 (Prensa Latina) The Brazilian Supreme Court scheduled for today the questioning of the six members of the so-called core two, accused of managing strategic actions for the success of the coup d'etat after the 2022 general elections.

The defendants will also answer for drafting a coup decree and the illegitimate use of the Federal Highway Police. It was also reported that the seven defendants from group four will also be questioned today.

According to a complaint filed by the Attorney General’s Office, these defendants were responsible for spreading false news, with the aim of generating distrust in electronic voting machines and the electoral process, creating a social climate favorable to the plot.

The high-profile case was divided into four criminal proceedings, according to the breakdown prepared by Attorney General Paulo Gonet, with authorization from the First Chamber of the Supreme Federal Court, as a way to expedite the processing of the case, despite criticism from the defense.

It was reported that the 10 defendants in group three, currently being tried in the Supreme Court, will appear in court next Monday, a date set by Judge Alexandre de Moraes, the rapporteur for the case at the high court, who could preside over the statements.

This group is composed of defendants who allegedly carried out tactical actions that included tracking the plot’s targets and planning the kidnapping and execution of officials.

With these statements, all witnesses who were willing to appear to answer questions related to the attempted coup were heard, either at the request of the Attorney General’s Office or the defense of the 31 defendants who make up all groups in the case.
