In Lebanon religious authority rejects division and insists on unity

Beirut, July 24 (Prensa Latina) The Grand Mufti of Lebanon, Abdel Latif Derian, rejected plans for division or fragmentation in Lebanon and insisted on remaining united.

In a meeting with President Joseph Aoun, the country’s highest Islamic authority emphasized continued coordination between the three branches of government (State, Parliament, and Government) in the best interests of Lebanon.

According to reports, the parties exchanged views on how best to protect the nation.

Latif Derian highlighted President Aoun’s commitment to the principles outlined in his inaugural address and his determination to move forward with them to preserve stability and security.

On this point, he maintained that UN Resolution 1701 has only been implemented by the Lebanese side, while Israel continues to violate the ceasefire agreement.

In the Grand Mufti’s view, President Aoun is fully fulfilling his constitutional duties and is committed to maintaining Lebanon’s presence on the Arab and international stage.

“Current efforts at the national and international levels are focused on ensuring stability and serving the interests of the Lebanese people,” the religious leader emphasized.
