Killing of Palestinian journalist in Gaza condemned

Ramallah, July 25 (Prensa Latina) The Palestinian Journalists' Union condemned the killing of a journalist in an Israeli airstrike against Gaza Strip, where more than 200 deaths have been reported in the sector in the last 21 months.

In a statement, the entity decried the attack that killed Adam Zakaria Abu Harbid and affirmed that such incursions “constitute a full-fledged war crime and a flagrant violation of all international norms and laws.”

Abu Harbid died when warplanes bombed his family’s tent in the Yarmouk area of the northern Gaza Strip; while the Zionist Army murdered pregnant journalist Walaa al-Jaabari, along with her five children and husband, the official Palestinian news agency (Wafa) reported.

Since the beginning of the aggression against Gaza in October 2023, Israeli troops have carried out horrific massacres against journalists in an attempt to hide the truth and terrorize media professionals, it emphasized.

Faced with this situation, the union called on the world to take immediate and effective measures to hold Israeli leaders, both political and military; according to Wafa, at least 35 media professionals have lost their lives in the coastal enclave as a result of Israeli attacks since the beginning of the year.

In 2024, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization awarded the Guillermo Cano Prize to Palestinian journalists covering the conflict in recognition of their work.

Weeks ago, several Palestinian journalists, released from Israeli prisons, denounced the torture and abuse they had been subjected to in those centers in recent months.
