Just to cover basic needs, more than 62,000 tons are required each month, but since May 21, only 26,000 tons have been delivered in total.
WFP also explained that it was estimated that “almost one in three people does not eat for days” in that territory.
Some 470,000 Gazans are suffering from famine, and 90,000 women and children are affected by malnutrition. Food aid is the only real way for people to eat, the agency stressed.
The WFP criticized the Israeli blockade and the slow application for approvals to bring aid into the territory, which has been under attack since August 2023.
Convoys are routinely delayed, waiting up to 46 hours before receiving final permits to travel along approved routes within Gaza, while crowds of hungry people often anticipate the arrival of our trucks and gather along the expected transport routes, which are very few, the UN agency described.
