Sri Lankans express admiration for Cuba in national holiday greetings

Colombo, July 26 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Alumni Association of Sri Lanka expressed its sincere admiration for the people of Cuba in a message for the July 26 celebrations on the Caribbean island.

In a letter delivered to the Cuban embassy in Colombo, signed by its board of directors, the Sri Lankan organization also praised the continued efforts of Cubans to defend the ideals of justice, equality, and independence.

It especially recognized the province of Ciego de Ávila, where this year’s national commemoration is being held, evoking the epic event carried out on July 26, 1953, by a group of young people led by Fidel Castro, known as the Centennial Generation. “On this July 26, 2025, we join the Cuban people in solemnly commemorating the 72nd anniversary of the historic assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks, an event that marked a turning point in Cuba’s revolutionary struggle for justice, sovereignty, and social dignity,” the South Asian nation’s friendship group emphasizes.

The Cuban Alumni Association of Sri Lanka emphasized that Fidel’s words about the historic event live on: “Moncada taught us to turn setbacks into victories,” and interpreted them as a message of resilience that continues to inspire people around the world.

The Cuban Alumni Association of Sri Lanka emphasized that this day reminds us all of the courage it takes to rise up against oppression and the importance of preserving the values for which so many gave their lives.
