People there have endured relentless killings, destruction, and despair for more than 650 days, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in Near East (UNRWA) stated on X. Once again, the population is forced to flee their homes on the orders of the Israeli authorities. They have nowhere to go, it emphasized.
On the same social network, UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini condemned the mechanism created by Israel and the United States to deliver aid to the coastal enclave, given that “Today, more children died, their bodies emaciated by hunger,” the official wrote.
“This mechanism is serving military and political objectives. It is cruel, because it takes more lives than it saves. Israel controls all aspects of humanitarian access, whether outside or inside Gaza,” he warned.
The UN chief called on Israel to lift the blockade and reiterated that both the UN and international NGOs have the capacity to deliver aid on a large scale and in a dignified manner.
The famine affecting that territory can only be reversed by political will, and “If we fail the Palestinians in Gaza, it is likely that others will fail us in the future as well. Let us not set a dangerous and irreversible precedent,” Lazzarini warned.
