Attacks on Zaporozhye Nuclear Plant considered extremely dangerous

Moscow, July 27 (Prensa Latina) The danger of Ukrainian attacks on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is assessed as "extremely high," the plant's press service told Sputnik.

“The danger of similar Ukrainian attacks remains extremely high,” the statement said, adding that last Friday a Ukrainian attack drone dropped an explosive charge on a parking lot near a fire station at the plant, causing a fire.

Later, Ukrainian troops attacked the satellite town of Energodar with artillery, whcih left two civilians dead and two others wounded, informed Yevgeny Balitsky, the region’s governor.

Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, that is the largest in Europe and is located near the city of Energodar, has six VVER-1000 pressurized water reactors and a total capacity of 6,000 megawatts.

In October 2022, following the annexation of the Zaporozhye Oblast into Russia, the plant became Russian property.

Currently, the plant’s six reactors are shut down to minimize the risk of exposure to the ongoing armed conflict.
