Cuba wins second place at Guatemalan Song Festival

Guatemala City, July 28 (Prensa Latina) Cuban singer Yosira Caridad Aleman won the second place at the 16th International Song Festival for People with Visual Impairments, held in Guatemala, an evidence to the precious bridge between art and inclusion.

By first performing the bolero-son “Lagrimas Negras” by composer Miguel Matamoros, the young Havana native brought the audience to their feet at the capital’s National Conservatory of Music. She then sang “Amor Eterno” (Eternal Love), written by Alberto Aguilera.

At an event organized by the Association of the Blind for Culture and Sports, dedicated to maestro Gisela Galvez and with participants from different countries, first place went to Soleil Victoria Arguello of Paraguay, and third place went to Guatemalan artist Milton Estuardo Ortiz.

At the end of the event, Yosira Caridad expressed her happiness for the opportunity given and her gratitude to those who had trusted in her. In the first song, she explained, I defended my roots and culture, and in the second, I embraced the international scene, with incredibly emotional lyrics, “which, personally, broke me deeply.”

She explained that she began singing as a child, because at the special school for people with visual impairments, there was a classroom where music was taught.

At her side, Jorge Luis Cabrera, the head of the department in charge of Culture at the National Association of the Blind, described how this is the island’s 10th participation in this Festival, with four first places, two second places, and a third place.

We have a very strong artistic movement in general, with theater, dance, among others, he concluded.
