Turkiye reiterates denouncement of Israeli occupation of Palestine

Ankara, July 29 (Prensa Latina) Turkiye reaffirmed its firm condemnation of the continued Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, identifying it as the main impediment to the realization of the State of Palestine, the official Anadolu Agency reported.

During his speech at the working group “Preserving the Two-State Solution,” held within the framework of the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Question at UN Headquarters in New York, Turkiye’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Nuh Yılmaz, stressed that “the greatest obstacle to the creation of an independent Palestinian state remains the ongoing Israeli occupation.”

The diplomat welcomed France’s recent statements in favor of recognizing the State of Palestine and expressed his hope that other nations will soon take on the same stance.

In his view, there is an emerging political will within the international community to end decades of suffering for the Palestinian people.

Yılmaz stressed that pressure tools must be commensurate with the severity of the conflict, particularly in light of the Israeli threats of annexation and the persistent violation of international humanitarian law.

Actions aimed at displacing and expelling the Palestinian population must cease immediately. A Palestinian state cannot be imagined without its people, he warned.

The deputy minister denounced the critical situation in Gaza Strip, as well as the illegal settlements, land confiscation, and systematic demolition of homes in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
