Organized by the Anti-Imperialist Front of the Sao Paulo Paraiba Valley region, the call brings together unions, political parties, social movements, and associations denouncing the recent attacks by former US President Donald Trump, particularly the imposition of a 50 percent tariff on domestic products.
According to the public letter released on July 25, Trump’s decision, scheduled to take effect on August 1, goes beyond the economic framework and represents a political offensive, with clear intentions to intervene in the Brazilian judicial system.
In this context, the Republican explicitly mentioned Jair Bolsonaro, the former president accused of leading the January 8, 2023, coup plot. For the group, this evidences an alliance between far-right sectors on a global level.
The situation is worsening with recent reports of negotiations between US senators, who are discussing the implementation of new economic and diplomatic measures aimed at strengthening their influence in Latin America; which also foresee the possibility of expanding sanctions against Brazil, increasing pressure on the government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and its institutions.
In parallel, the figure of Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of the former president and one of Trump’s main allies, is gaining prominence due to his recent move to the United States.
This situation exacerbates the threats given that father and son maintain an active plan to destabilize Brazilian democracy and restore an authoritarian regime.
