Israel expands Gaza border crossing to expel Palestinians

Tel Aviv, July 29 (Prensa Latina) The Israeli Ministry of Defense is expanding the Kerem Shalom crossing, on the border with the Gaza Strip, to speed up the mass exodus of the Palestinian population from the coastal enclave, the Walla news website revealed.

A Walla reporter documented the work at the site, located about four kilometers from Rafah border crossing and hundreds of meters from the triple border between Israel, Egypt, and Gaza.

The measure will also speed up the inspection of aid entering Gaza from Egypt, the entry of delegations, and the exit of patients and sick people for treatment abroad, the outlet noted.

Earlier this year, US President Donald Trump advocated for the expulsion of Palestinians from the Strip, comments that sparked a wave of international criticism and support from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Since the current phase of violence in the area began in October 2023, several members of the Israeli cabinet have advocated for the displacement of the coastal enclave’s inhabitants, despite global condemnation and criticism from the UN.

During his visit to Washington earlier this month, Netanyahu publicly announced that he is working to find countries that can host the more than two million Palestinians living there.

On numerous occasions, the Palestinian leadership has denounced the displacement campaign and warned about the country’s plans to control Gaza, where more than 59,000 deaths have been reported in the past 21 months.
