Serbia launches campaign to build a wall on the border with Croatia

Belgrade, July 30 (Prensa Latina) The Serbian conservative movement Naši launched the symbolic campaign "Buy a Brick for the Wall with Croatia," a citizens' initiative seeking to protest what they consider Zagreb's hostile policies toward their nation.

The action, symbolic in nature according to its organizers, invites Serbs to symbolically finance a border structure.

It is not a political provocation, but rather a response to decades of aggression, a spokesperson for the group told RuSerbia.com.

Analysts consulted by PL see the gesture as a reflection of unresolved historical tensions.

International Relations professor Dragan Petrović recalled that Croatia has never fully recognized the genocide of Serbs at the Jasenovac concentration camp (1941-1945).

The campaign specifically cites Operation Storm in 1995, when Croatian forces expelled more than 200,000 Serbs from the Krajina region.

Zagreb considers the date a national victory day, while Belgrade calls it ethnic cleansing.

Unlike previous migration barriers in the region, this project would have an identity-based character.
