US and Russia to discuss ISS decommissioning

Moscow, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) The decommissioning of the International Space Station (ISS) will be the focus of the talks between the heads of the United States and Russian space agencies, RIA Novosti reported on Wednesday.

The note exlains that acting North American Space Agency (NASA) administrator Shawn Duffy and Russia’s ROSCOSMOS director general Dmitry Bakanov will hold a key meeting on July 31 in New York City.

The two executives will also meet with the crew of the Crew Dragon spacecraft, which includes cosmonaut Oleg Platonov.

The statement also noted that Duffy and Bakanov will discuss, in addition to the ISS’s decommissioning, the possibility that the space station remains operational until 2030.

The head of Roscosmos previously announced that a draft program has been developed to deorbit the ISS, and the process will take approximately two and a half years.
