Europe to study gas demand organization

Brussels, Jul 31 (Prensa Latina) The European Commission reported that it could gather demand from European companies to buy more U.S. liquefied natural gas.

This purpose is part of the efforts to reach the commitment to buy 250 billion dollars of US energy per year.

They added that under a framework trade agreement that the United States and the European Union (EU) signed on Sunday, the Europeans pledged to increase their purchases of U.S. energy to $750 billion over the next three years.

Analysts point out that this is an unrealistic figure. The Commission noted that it will remain up to private companies to choose where they buy energy.

Despite this, the EC is considering pooling demand from European buyers to match U.S. supplies.

According to the Commission, a round of this scheme targeting U.S. liquefied natural gas could be organized in September, if necessary.

The $750 billion energy deal covers EU purchases of U.S. oil, LNG and nuclear fuel and technologies.
