Cuban coach foresees rivalry in Junior Games Wrestling

Havana, August 1 (Prensa Latina) Olympic bronze medalist in Athens 2004 and current junior women's wrestling coach, Ivan Fundora, foresees a strong rivalry in the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Asuncion, Paraguay.

According to the Cuban digital sports outlet Jit, Fundora stated that to win the team title in Asuncion, they will have to try very hard, because there are strong and experienced athletes in many countries in the region, trained primarily by Cuban coaches.

“Our four girls have trained satisfactorily and are in optimal shape to reach the awards podium,” he added.

The Olympic bronze medalist stated that they have worked on countless technical, theoretical, and psychological aspects, in addition to placing special emphasis on avoiding injuries.

“In my preparation as a coach for this event in Asuncion, I watched videos of rivals, not only from the continent, but also of other foreign athletes, in order to observe the opponents,” he said.

According to the strategist, the star of the squad is Yaynelis Sanz (57 kg), the Cuban delegation’s flag bearer for the Games, who will attempt to repeat the title she won four years ago.
