According to an operational summary of the National Cybersecurity Agency for the first half of the year, published on the official website of that government agency, 1,549 cyberattacks were recorded during that period, 346 of them with confirmed impact, a 98% increase compared to 2024.
The detection capabilities of the Italian Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) were evident during the period, the document indicates, which increased the capacity to confront these threats.
In fact, the CSIRT issued 23,144 early warning communications, 9,0% more than in 2024, and promptly notified affected or vulnerable parties. Additionally, 329 technical advisories were published on the official portal with countermeasures to mitigate the impacts.
According to the ACN, the most significant events between January 1 and June 30, 2025, were Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, as well as data exposure and phishing campaigns characterized by impersonation of legitimate entities’ networks to obtain victims’ confidential information.
Among the most affected sectors remain local and central public administration entities, as well as the telecommunications sector.
